All I Want for Christmas is a Workplace That Doesn't Suck

Dear Santa,

Save your gift boxes this year. Here is what I really want:

  1. A mission that isn’t just corporate fluff. If your company exists solely to "maximize shareholder value," at least own it instead of pretending to save the world.

  2. Managers who understand leadership isn’t micromanagement. One clear direction beats five “urgent” emails every time.

  3. A team that embraces accountability without needing Sherlock Holmes to solve who dropped the ball.

  4. Fewer pointless meetings and more time for meaningful work. If it can be an email, make it one.

  5. Pay transparency without secrecy or gimmicks. Let’s stop acting like salary ranges are top-secret government files.

  6. Core values that guide action, not just decorate the website. If your values don’t shape decisions, they’re just wallpaper.

  7. Leaders who address burnout with solutions, not platitudes. Self-care isn’t the answer to your broken systems.

  8. DEI initiatives that are more than a checkbox or a stock photo of diverse smiles. Build a culture where people want to stay, not just join.

  9. A breakroom free from passive-aggressive notes about cleaning the microwave. Real community, not snack-fueled hostility.

  10. PTO policies that encourage real rest. If nobody feels safe taking time off, it’s not a benefit—it’s a scam.

  11. CEOs who live in reality, not motivational posters. Start fixing processes before preaching about grit.

  12. Celebrations of meaningful achievements, not hustle culture. Working through the weekend isn’t a badge of honor—it’s a red flag.

  13. Wellness programs that actually improve well-being. Replace the yoga apps with resources people can use, like better healthcare or less workload.

  14. Slack channels that aren’t dumping grounds for memes and motivational spam. Use them to connect, not clutter.

  15. A culture that inspires, not pressures. Employees shouldn’t feel like they’re part of a cult just to get their job done.

  16. Honest, actionable feedback. Don’t sugarcoat it—just tell us what needs improvement before it’s too late.

  17. Logical, consistent decision-making. Stop changing lanes without signaling, and give teams clarity.

  18. Holiday parties that actually feel like a celebration. Ditch the stale cookies and give us something meaningful—or just let us leave early.

  19. A work environment where parking lot tears aren’t the norm. It’s a low bar, but one worth setting.

  20. Respect, decency, and a genuine commitment to people—not just the bottom line. That’s the real gift everyone wants this season.

Santa, if you’re listening, we don’t need more Secret Santa gift exchanges. We need respect, decency, and maybe a pay bump. Wrap that up with a bow.
